About me

Hello, my name is Michael, and I have been working as a freelance technical translator since 1998, mainly for translation agencies.

I have always been interested in how things work, and that’s why I studied Technical Translation at the University of Hildesheim between 1994 and 2000.
This course of studies did not only include linguistic classes and translation classes but also classes in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, technical drawing and an introduction into practical working skills (welding, cutting, working with lathes etc.)
Before, I worked as a purchaser at a municipal energy provider.

In the last years I’ve mainly focused on medical devices (equipment plus corresponding software, surgical instruments and implants) and all kind of laboratory equipment, as well as motor vehicles (cars, trucks, motorbikes, tractors, lawn mowers, and excavators).

I actually like working for agencies, because this way I can concentrate on and specialize in technical topics instead of translating all kinds of texts for direct clients. Plus, I am translating texts almost exclusively from English into German, as this is the language I’m absolutely perfect in.
However, if you are a manufacturer or importer selling products to Germany, please feel free to contact me 🙂
